I take an antidepressant. No I'm not depressed (though there is nothing to be ashamed of if you are). Antidepressants are used for many reasons, mine happens to be for panic disorder. My panic attacks were brutal, sometimes lasting for hours or even into the next day. Once I was put on the antidepressant Effexor 9 years ago, I haven't has a panic attack since!
My biggest upset about using antidepressants is that the Doctors claim its not addicting. Seriously? What Planet are they going to Medical school on?
Antidepressants are extremely addicting. If you can't stop taking a medication with out feeling completely sick... its addicting. The withdrawals are horrible.
In just 24 hours of missing a dose of Effexor I felt extreme pressure behind my eyes, headache & when I moved my head the room would slightly spin. After 36 hours I had heart palpitations, face numbness and dizziness... sort of like a hangover feeling.... spinning rooms and such... I had extreme irritability and a hard time concentrating. When I tried to sleep I had feelings of falling. And there was a never ending feeling of "fuzziness" in my head.
Antidepressants do work, sometimes it takes trying a couple different ones to find the one what works for whatever you might need it for. But it totally and thoroughly irritates me that there is no honesty about how addicting these medications are!!!
I don't have a Doctor In Austin yet so my script ran out but I have a temporary refill for now and a doctors Appt on Friday. Everything is just fine :).
SO. On to a happier topic... Im at the store and see a cardboard bottle of laundry detergent... for real. I love recycling, I was Earth friendly before it was even popular! This is just so cool!! Austin, Texas is banning plastic bags this year.... Americans better get used to change! I'm excited about it!
On a final happy note... I applied for an apartment today! I love it! An upstairs flat with a flower box window in the kitchen and a small deck off of the master bedroom! It also has a fireplace and is close to my family! Please cross your fingers and say a prayer that I get it!... Oh and there is a huge pecan tree right next to the patio... its perfect for my children and me.
I hope you're all having a peaceful weekend ....
I believe they are indeed addictive. I have taken st.johns wort in the past, but it made me feel like I wanted to put my head under the quilt and stay there! Earth friendly sounds good, great to hear they will be banning plastic bags! just need to run a few toes up on the sewing machine and it'll be fine! congrats on the apartment. i eat pecans every day!! heather x
ReplyDeleteoops that was meant to say totes!
DeleteThey are addictive My GP agrees. He tried to prescribe them for me last year I refused them as I was adamant I wasn't depressed. He prescribed much more expensive meds in there place. When I was back to normal after a couple of weeks he had to agree that because of the time limit GP's have with there patients they do over prescribe Anti depressants.
ReplyDeleteI am praying for you Tammy the apartment sounds lovely. can't wait to see what you do to it.
Great news about the plastic, I hate plastic bags.
Take care hope your feeling better and having a great weekend.;-) xx
There is no shame whatsoever in taking antidepressants. I've got my fingers crossed for you re the appartment it sounds perfect.
ReplyDeleteGlad you got your refill, the withdrawal sounds awful! I know what you mean about honesty, doesn't sound like much to expect, yet... Fingers crossed for your apartment :) xx
ReplyDeleteI do believe all medications are addictive to some degree, some more than others... love the cardboard box for detergent, I too am a recycling nut! Sending positive thoughts your way for your apartment! Cheers~
ReplyDeleteTammy, sounds horrible! I think overall the entire medical community needs to have a bit more empathy towards their patients. It has become very much about the dollar and not so much about the patient. They should be forthcoming about all the information regarding the drugs they are giving us.
ReplyDeleteSome areas in So. Cal have already banned those pesky plastic bags. And, in some places, if you don't bring your own bags, you get charged for the ones they have to give you!
That apartment does sound great! Fingers crossed and lots of positive thoughts being sent your way! A pecan tree and a fireplace! ! ! Wow! :) Good luck!
Don't know much about anti-depresents, but doesn't sound too good.
ReplyDeleteGood news about the appartment,it sounds lovely!
A cardboard bottle? not seen one of those here! I use Ecover products and have my bottles refilled in a local shop - washing up liquid, clothes washing liquid, fabric conditioner and multi surface cleaner. I have had the same bottles for around 4 years now. Usualy have one being used and then get the other refilled -works for me!
I hope you've got your prescription sorted and are feeling better Tammy, and that you're having better luck with the apartment hunting :)
ReplyDeleteWell done for putting this out there, Tammy. No-one ever talks about mental health issues which is a shame. I hope you get your medication sorted out. Take care.
